Keukenhoff Gardens, Netherlands

For those of us who grew up in the '80s watching Amitabh Bachchan romancing Rekha amidst infinite rows of tulips in Yash Chopra's Silsila, this is the movie come true. This is flower heaven. Never-ending stripes of perfectly manicured tulips in unimaginable colors. Our trip to Keukenhoff gardens was movie perfect.I do not possess the word smithing skills to describe either the gardens or the flowers. It's a horticulturist's dream, it's landscaping poetry, it's absolutely stunning. The pictures can do the talking but even they can't rival the actual experience. From Centraal station, we took a train to the airport and then a bus to Keukenhoff (we were told this was a shorter and cheaper option than going to Leiden and then taking the bus from there). There was mad traffic trying to get into the park. But we could care less. Our faces broke into wide smiles at the sight of the endless Tulip fields. Anoushka launched into an impromptu song that set the tone for the rest of the day and trip:
flowers are blooming
flowers are blooming
all around
lots of pretty colors
on the ground
